Cape Girardeau County has issued a restricted burn order due to the combination of high temperatures, low humidity, dry ground covering, the possibility of increasing winds and lack of forecasted precipitation.

County residents should postpone open outdoor burning until the fire danger decreased, according to the order. Field fires for agricultural purposes and wood lot fires are prohibited.

County residents are urged to be extremely careful when extinguishing smoking material, as the grass along highways could easily ignite. Campers and hunters are also asked to be cautious and observe park regulations and guidelines over the weekend.
