Response has been overwhelming to the Southeast Missourian's first hands-on Internet training sessions. In fact, both classes filled up in less than two days.

Enrollment was limited to 24 persons in each class due to the number of computers at the A-plus lab.

The newspaper has started a waiting list for future sessions.

Plenty of room still remains for the free beginners' Internet lecture on May 29. Staff members involved with SEMissourian.com, the newspaper's new web site, will lead the session.

The one-hour lecture and slide show will provide an explanation of what the Internet is and how it works.

It will be held at the Cape Girardeau Vocational-Technical School, Room 214, from 7 to 8 p.m. Time will be saved for questions and answers at the end of the presentation.

Although the cost is free, registration is requested. Individuals can fill out the form located on 4B of today's paper, or call Joni Adams or Peggy Scott at 335-6611 or 1-800-879-1210.

"We were really pleased with the response to our hands-on training sessions," said Adams. "I think it demonstrates the high level of interest in the Internet."

She encouraged interested persons to get on the waiting list, so they'll receive priority for the next sessions. Plans for future training sessions will be announced at the May 29 Internet meeting.
