REPUBLIC, Mo. -- After a decision to ban two books drew national attention, a southwest Missouri school district will discuss revising its book policy.

The governing board of the Republic School District will meet Monday to discuss the policy that led to pulling "Slaughterhouse-Five" and "Twenty Boy Summer" from the school.

The Springfield News-Leader reported that a proposed revision of the book standards would allow books that do not meet the standards to be available but housed in a separate section of the library. And they could be checked out only by a parent or guardian.

The current policy removed the books from the high school. The rest of the policy -- which says books that fail to meet district standards will be allowed only for independent reading -- would remain.
