The youth of First Christian Church will hold their annual garage sale at the church. Proceeds go toward a work trip next summer.

Areawide Women's Conference at Jackson First Baptist Church from 5 to 8 p.m. The theme is "Extreme Makeover: Faith Edition" with guest speaker Ginger Millermon of Kansas. Tickets are $6. For more information, call 243-8467.

Chorale Minstrel, a Christian singing group from the Philippines, will perform at Cape Seventh Day Adventists Church at 4:30 p.m. The church is at 820 S. West End Blvd.

Grace United Methodist Church continues its 150th anniversary celebration with an Old-Fashioned Sunday School opening ceremony.

Herman and Sonnie Harp will perform at Cape Girardeau Seventh Day Adventist Church, 820 S. West End Blvd., at 6:15 p.m.

Local Methodists will celebrate Old McKendree Day on the ground of Old McKendree Chapel in Jackson at 3 p.m.

The Youth Encounter Group "Captive Free" will provide special music and a puppet program at 9 a.m. at Hanover Lutheran Church.

Lutheran Chapel of Hope on the Campus of Southeast Missouri State University will have a Family Weekend Service at 11 a.m. Dinner will be served in the Student Union after the service.

Church Women United will hold a quilt show from 3 to 6 p.m. at First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. For more information, contact Joyce King at 243-5230.

Benefit concert for Hurricane Katrina relief effort at 7 p.m. at First General Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau, 1812 Cape LaCroix Road. Brian Free and Assurance will perform. Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.

Randles General Baptist Church will hold its annual homecoming celebration at 10 a.m. Oct. 9 with a meal at noon. The event will feature a performance by gospel group Ozark Foothills.

Trivia night at Centenary scheduled for Oct. 7

Centenary United Methodist Church will hold a trivia night Oct. 7 in the family life center to raise money for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Entry fee is $10. For more information, call 334-2869.

Old McKendree Day celebrated Sunday

Southeast Missouri Methodists will celebrate Old McKendree Day in honor of early pioneers at 3 p.m. Sunday at Old McKendree Chapel. Speaker will be district superintendent the Rev. David D. Norbury. Musical entertainment will be provided by Friends Pickin'. The public is invited to attend. The chapel is at 4080 Bainbridge Road in Jackson.

Hayride, hotdog roast for UMY youth

The Southeast Missouri chapter of Vincentian Marian Youth will hold its monthly Mass Oct. 9 at the Shrine Church in Perryville, Mo. The Mass will be followed by a hayride and hotdog roast. The event is geared toward teenagers and young adults and will begin at 6 p.m.

CROP walk to be held at county park Oct. 2

Local churches will participate in a CROP walk to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina victims and the local FISH pantry. The event will begin at 2 p.m. Oct. 2 at Cape Girardeau County Park North.
