Dedication service at Maple United Methodist Church for the new fellowship hall. Worship is at 10:15 a.m., followed by a potluck at 11:30 a.m. The dedication is at 1:30 p.m. with district superintendent Steve Breon.
Sister Mary Christopher Chinedum Ibegwam, Order of Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Mother of Christ, will speak at 9 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. She is visiting the country as a missionary and working in Minneapolis, Minn., and will share her experiences about Christianity in Africa.
Lynwood on Mission celebration service at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Tim McClard, a former staff member at the church and missionary to Suriname, will speak.
Opening worship service at 11 a.m. at Lutheran Chapel of Hope on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University at Pacific and College Hill streets. A meal will follow. There is no service on Labor Day weekend.
Homecoming for the Trinity Methodist Church will be at noon with a basket dinner. A program, fellowship time and song service will follow the meal. Guests should bring lawn chairs.
Sons of the Father will perform at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Jackson.

Christian music group The Continentals will perform at 7 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene in Cape Girardeau.

New pastor installed at Second Baptist Church
Second Missionary Baptist Church will install a new pastor, Marco M. Greer, this weekend. The church is holding a service at 4 p.m. Sunday with special guests, including pastors from Houston, East St. Louis, Ill., and St. Louis.
Wesley United Methodist to celebrate 40 years
Wesley United Methodist Church in Fruitland will celebrate its 40th anniversary at 10:15 a.m. Aug. 29. The Singing C's will perform, and a covered-dish lunch will follow. The church also offers a summer "Holy Spirit Revival" at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28. Guest preachers are the Rev. David and Geneva Bentley.
Houchins acts as interim minister for Red Star
Bob Houchins has been serving as interim pastor at Red Star Baptist Church as the congregation searches for a new minister. Houchins is employed by the Missouri Baptist Convention and serves as director of the Baptist Student Center at Southeast Missouri State University. He and his wife, Brenda, have four children.
