Weigh Down Workshop to begin

First Baptist Church will hold an orientation May 19 for a new 12-week study using the Weigh Down Workshop. The orientation will follow morning worship services at the church.

The weight-loss program is based on a Bible study. Classes begin June 2 and will meet from 4:45 to 6 p.m. at the church. Cost is $103 for materials.

Teen Challenge choir to perform

The Mid-America Teen Challenge New Creations choir will perform at 6 p.m. May 19 at Hanover Lutheran Church. The church is beginning a new Sunday night worship service called Evening Praise.

Youth praise band festival

Shout to the Lord, a youth praise band festival is being held from 5 to 7 p.m. May 18 at the Capaha Park band shelter. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

The event is sponsored by Lynwood Baptist Church.

Pentecost Sunday service May 19

Calvary United Pentecost Church in Jackson, Mo., will hold a special Pentecost Sunday service May 19 at 2 p.m. at the church.

The speaker will be the Rev. John Hudson with music from the Greater Dimension Choir.

Baccalaureate service set at Holiday Inn

A baccalaureate service will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 19 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center. The service is sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Ministerial Alliance.

Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association plans event

The Rev. Richard Combs will be the guest speaker during the annual Pleasant Hill Day May 26. Special music will be performed by Dan and Roberta Brown.

The service will begin at 11 a.m. and will be followed by dinner on the grounds. Families are asked to bring table service, folding tables and chairs.

Contributions for upkeep of the cemetery can be mailed to Ruth Tinnin at 306 Kyle Drive; Jackson, Mo. 63755.

New youth workers start at church

Ryan Harper and Lynn Casteel have been hired as part-time youth directors at First Baptist Church, beginning May 19.

Harper worked as a youth director for First Baptist Church in Jackson, Mo. Casteel worked with international students at Southeast Missouri State University. Both are active in the Baptist Student Center.

McGuire Cemetery memorial service set

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. May 19 at McGuire Cemetery south of Burfordville, Mo. A brief business session will follow and contributions will be received for cemetery maintenance. Contributions can be mailed to Donna Eakins at 2515 Janet Drive; Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701 or to Earl Stovall at P.O. Box 284; Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0284.

Arnsberg Cemetery Association to meet

The Arnsberg Cemetery Association will meet on the cemetery grounds at 2 p.m. May 19 in northern Cape Girardeau County off Route KK. The afternoon will be spent visiting and planning for the historic site's future. Guests should bring lawn chairs. Donations can be mailed to Leonard Adams; 1305 Cherokee; Jackson, Mo. 63755.
