Jewish Awareness Group takes break for summer
The Jewish Awareness Group of Cape Girardeau will go on a summer hiatus. The group will not hold meetings in June, July or August but will resume its schedule in September. The group had been meeting at 7 p.m. on the first Friday of each month at Christ Episcopal Church.
Gordonville church adding second service
Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville will begin a second worship service Sunday. The worship service is being added a 8 a.m., with a later service at 10:30 a.m.
First Baptist in Jackson has spring revival
First Baptist Church in Jackson will hold revival services May 18 to 21. There will be featured music at each service. Dr. D.L. Lowrie will preach. Services will be at the regular worship times.
Annual Pleasant Hill Day planned at cemetery
The Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association is holding its annual Pleasant Hill Day May 25 at the church grounds near Fruitland.
Worship will be at 11 a.m., followed by a basket dinner at noon. All families should bring their own table service, folding tables and lawn chairs.
The guest speaker is William Felty. He and his wife are retired missionaries. He was formerly a pastor at Scopus United Methodist Church.

Baccalaureate event at Jackson planned
A baccalaureate service will be at 7 p.m. May 18 at Jackson High School. The service is sponsored by the Jackson Ministerial Alliance.
Former Cape resident earns Catholic honor
Connie Newton, a former Cape Girardeau resident and teacher, recently received the Spirit of Guadalupe Award from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in St. Joseph, Mo.
The parish's top award honored Newton for her work with hunger issues. She created a program to help feed school children from poor families during the summer months.
She is a graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School and is the daughter of Harold and Luella Kielhofner of Oran, Mo.
Apple Creek church to mark anniversary
Apple Creek Presbyterian Church near Pocahontas, Mo., will celebrate its 181st anniversary with a "Third Sunday in May" service at 11 a.m. May 18.
The Rev. Jimmie Corbin will be the speaker and a basket dinner will follow the worship.
Corbin is a native of Southeast Missouri and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. He has studied at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis and Cradler School of Theology in Atlanta.
Book on St. John's church available
A book commemorating St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the former Arnsberg community is now available.
