Cape pastor receives doctorate degree
The Rev. Jay White, pastor of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, recently received a doctorate of ministry degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va.
White has been pastor of First Baptist Church since mid-August.
Youth concert March 29
Freedom Rock youth center will sponsor a concert at 8 p.m. March 29 with Tinman Jones.
Jones offers an edgy, modern rock sound with Christian lyrics. The band has performed with Skillet, Bleach, Reliant K and Reality Check. Their first single "Super Hero" is being played on radio stations nationwide.

Radio station to air Easter shows
American Family Radio, heard locally on 88.5 FM, will air 14 Easter specials beginning Sunday.
A dramatic presentation by Frank Harvey will air at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by "Easter Thoughts" with Don Johnson at 8 p.m. and then "Four Days that Shook the World" at 9 p.m.
Each day during Holy Week, another special will air at 8 p.m. Monday it is "The Passover Lamb," Tuesday is "A Doctor's View of the Crucifixion," Wednesday is "Reflections of Easter," and "The Roman Centurion" on Thursday.
"Passion and Promise" will air at 5 p.m. Friday and "Judas" at 7 p.m. and "Seven Sayings of the Christ on the Cross" at 8 p.m.
"My Redeemer Lives" will air at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday, with "After the Cross" at 8 p.m. and then "He is Worthy" at 9 p.m.
Church Women United sponsor blood drive
Church Women United, an ecumenical group, will sponsor its 25th community blood drive from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Senior Center in Cape Girardeau.
The women became involved in the blood drives in 1978 and have continued to sponsor the event. The largest drive was in 1983 when 511 people donated during a two-day period.
The women in the group usually provide homemade cookies for the donors. The American Red Cross is in need of the blood type O negative.
Revival at Lighthouse Baptist Church
Evangelist Wil Rice will be the guest speaker during revival services Sunday through Friday at Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church. Services will be at 10 and 11 a.m. Sunday and at 7 p.m. weekdays.
Rice travels through the United States to sing and preach. The Thompsons will provide special music.
Disaster Relief team gets training
The Cape Girardeau Baptist Association's disaster relief unit received special training last week in Marshall, Mo.
The two-day training course was designed to test the effectiveness of the unit's feeding station. The station works through the Missouri Baptist Convention and is assigned to serve the local association.
Team members who received training were Eric Hodge, who served as chaplain, Pat Krueger, head cook, and Doug Austin, security coordinator.
The training included Red Cross partnerships, sanitation, food preparation and set-up of a mobile unit.
Gospel concert set for Easter weekend
Two gospel music concerts are set for Easter weekend at the A.C. Brase Arena Building in Cape Girardeau.
The McGruders of Kennett will sing at the 7 p.m. performance on Good Friday, March 29. Other performers include Tony Gore and Majesty, Gospel Enforcers and the Gabbards.
The performance March 30 includes the Isaacs, Karen Peck and New River, the Comptons, Roarks and the Gabriels. The show begins at 6:30 p.m.

Chaffee churches plan Easter service
CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Churches in the community will join together for a sunrise service at 5:30 a.m. Easter Sunday at Circle Park in Chaffee. All are invited to attend.
