Methodist church holds Veterans Day service

Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church will have a special service at 9 a.m. Nov. 16 in honor of the Veterans Day holiday. A flag ceremony will be presented by the Honor Guard of the Marine Corps League. The church will recognize members past and present who have served in the military.

Scott City church to hold Christmas bazaar

Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City will host a "Homemade Christmas" bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at the church.

Baked goods will be for sale, as well as craft items and Christmas decorations. A soup lunch also will be served.

Heartland church gets truck for ministry work

Christ Church of the Heartland has received a donated 18-foot truck to be used in connection with the church's food ministry and to help families in need.

The church received the truck from Project Hope, a faith-based mentoring program for people working to get off welfare. Thirty-five area congregations serve as partners for the clients in the program. Christ Church of the Heartland has a ministry to help families in need with donated furniture.

Good Shepherd Church receives donation

The youth program at Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel in Cape Girardeau has received a $250 donation from Midamerica Hotels Corp.

The donation came to 6-year-old Zackery Kuehn, who won a charity balloon launch sponsored by Midamerica Hotels. Kuehn's balloon traveled 180 miles to West Plains, Mo., before being found and returned.
