Cornerstone affiliates with Assembly of God
Cornerstone Church in Cape Girardeau voted this week to become an affiliated church with the Assemblies of God denomination. The vote was taken after a meeting with a denominational representative who explained the process and requirements. The church will remain autonomous and be known as a general council church at the denomination headquarters, which allows it support for staff searches and guidance. John Livingston, a deacon, said the move gives the church more exposure and was a positive decision. "Now people will know what kind of church we are and not wonder about what sort of nondenominational church we are," he said. Cornerstone had once tried to affiliate with the Assemblies of God, but the vote wasn't approved. Yet the church constitution and bylaws are modeled after those of the denomination. "This makes it official," Livingston said. Cornerstone will now be called Cornerstone Assembly of God Church.
