Seminar for grandparents to be held Tuesday
A conference for grandparents raising grandchildren will be held Tuesday at the Centenary United Methodist Church family life center. The conference, sponsored by Kinship Care Network of Southeast Missouri and Area Agency on Aging, is free and includes lunch and child care. Topics will include legal issues, behavior management and benefits checkups. To register, call the Community Counseling Center at 334-1100 and leave your name, address and phone number in a message at extension 215, or e-mail bmayfield@ ccntr.com. Registration will continue through Monday, but drop-ins are welcome.
Local officials will mark the start of a street lighting project at Center Junction on Friday. The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. at the Missouri Veterans Home gazebo. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the $201,784 contract to K&K Electric Co. of Cape Girardeau. This project is a cost-share program between the Missouri Department of Transportation and the city of Jackson. To expedite the project, the cities of Jackson and Cape Girardeau agreed to seek financing for the project and split the interest costs.
