Man shot in Sikeston; others shot in Charleston
SIKESTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston man was shot early Saturday, at about the same time five people were shot in Charleston, Mo.
Trevor Neal was shot at 2:26 a.m. during an alleged confrontation with several other men at Dixie and Osage streets in Sikeston, according to Sikeston Department of Public Safety director Drew Juden.
Neal, who is in his mid-20s, was in serious condition.
Sikeston police stumbled across the shooting after being called to provide extra security at Missouri Delta Medical Center following the shooting of at least five people in Charleston early Saturday, Juden said.
"Our victim was brought into the hospital while we were there, so we assumed he was from the Charleston shooting. It wasn't until later we discovered his shooting took place in Sikeston," Juden said.
Police believe the Charleston shootings took place after a dispute between two factions at a night spot. The Charleston Department of Public Safety said no one was killed and that the victims were in serious condition.
