Josh Crowell named assistant principal

Josh Crowell, the brother of state Sen. Jason Crowell, has been named assistant principal at Central High School for the 2007-2008 school year, school officials announced. Crowell's appointment was approved by the school board earlier this week. For the past nine years, Crowell has taught health and physical education, first at Central Junior High School and later at the high school. Crowell, a native of Cape Girardeau and a graduate of Central High School, officially will begin his duties Aug. 1. He will replace Al McFerren, who served as assistant principal the past five years. McFerren has accepted the job of principal at Scott County Central High School.

KFVS12 received seven awards at the 2007 Missouri Broadcasters' Association Awards held earlier this month in St. Louis. The MBA Awards consist of entries from television and radio stations that have viewers or listeners in Missouri. In the category of Best Sportscast, sports director Todd Richards won first place for Heartland Football Friday. KFVS12 also won first place in the Station Sponsored Community Event category for the Heartland Blood Drive. Other first place honors were awarded for Best Investigative Reporting for Kathy Sweeney's "What's In The Water" and Best Station Self Promotion for the "Bob By The Numbers" promotional campaign. The station also received three honorable mentions.

Highway 25 down to 1 lane near Dutchtown

Highway 25 in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced to one lane while the Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a drainage pipe beneath the roadway. The section of roadway is about 2 1/2 miles north of Dutchtown. Weather permitting, the work will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
