Police investigate theft of checks from golf course
Cape Girardeau police are investigating a theft of checks from the deposit bag of the city golf course. Department spokesman Cpl. Jason Selzer said the theft was discovered Monday when the golf course manager took the deposit bag to US Bank and the teller found the discrepancy. The deposit bag was prepared Saturday, and according to the initial report, the employee who prepared the deposit said they placed it in a safe at the golf course. Selzer declined to give the value of the checks stolen. Police have not yet interviewed all the employees at the golf course. "There were several employees who could have had access to it," Selzer said. The golf course has a pro shop and concession area for patrons and the checks represent receipts for goods sold Saturday, Selzer said.
