Pedestrian hit by truck on highway near Fruitland

A 69-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday after he was struck by a truck on Highway 177 five miles east of Fruitland. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Russell Fredericks of Graham, Wash., was walking along the road when he was struck by a 1996 International tractor trailer driven by John Boan, 47, of Oran. Russell was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center where he is in serious but stable condition.

Hulshof in town to talk about Kerry's tax record

Ninth District U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Mo., and Missouri Senate President Pro Tem Peter Kinder, R-Cape Girardeau, will join supporters of President George W. Bush across the state to educate voters about Sen. John Kerry's support of higher taxes. Hulshof will be in Cape Girardeau today at 12:20 p.m. at 475 Kell Farm Road. Kinder will speak on the south lawn of the Capitol building in Jefferson City at noon. Both will highlight the effects that Kerry-supported tax increases would have on Missourians and the local economy.
