The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics program will be involved in postseason competition, as junior Tara Boldt and senior Katie Bloom have qualified for the NCAA South Central Regional in Lincoln, Neb., on April 9.

Boldt will compete in the all-around at the meet, hosted by Big 12 Conference champion and sixth-ranked Nebraska. She ranks 57th nationally and 12th regionally with a Regional Qualifying Score of 38.925.

This is Boldt's second appearance at the regionals. Last season, she finished 10th in the all-around with a score of 38.850.

Bloom, also competing in the all-around, will be making her first regional appearance after serving as an alternate in the all-around last season. She ranks 89th nationally and 19th regionally with a RQS of 38.600.

"I'm extremely proud of Tara and Katie," Southeast coach Tom Farden said. "I'm expecting top-notch performances by both of them."

Tennis downs Austin Peay

Southeast's tennis team defeated visiting Austin Peay 6-1 on Tuesday, as the Redhawks surpassed their Ohio Valley Conference win total from all of last season.

The Redhawks (5-9, 2-2 OVC) also avenged last year's shutout loss at the hands of the Govs (4-12, 1-4).

"It was a big win for us, after they swept us last year," said second-year coach Jay Pacelli, whose first Southeast squad won just one match last year. "Every OVC match is big, and if we can win another match or two, we can assure a place in the OVC tournament, which would be big for our program."

Southeast won five of the six singles matches and swept the three doubles contests to claim the doubles point.

The Redhawks play at Murray State today, then have two more home matches this weekend -- noon Saturday against Morehead State and 10 a.m. Sunday against Eastern Kentucky.

Softball drops two

The Southeast softball squad had just three hits in each game while dropping a nonconference doubleheader 3-2 and 9-0 Tuesday at Evansville.

The Redhawks are 14-12 and the Aces are 10-17.

Freshman Michelle Summers belted her team-leading sixth home run of the season in the eight-inning opener, as she had two hits.

Amy Fahnestock was the tough-luck loser in the opener as all three runs were unearned, including the winning tally in the bottom of the eighth.

The nightcap ended after six innings on the run rule. Stephanie Huffman took the loss.

Southeast resumes OVC action Saturday at Tennessee State.
