The Red House Interpretive Center announces its events for this month.

  • 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, historical family reading for children presented on the porch by Cape Public Library and the Red House. Each session is 30 minutes. Children from the Boys and Girls Club will read stories about African Americans.

* 11 a.m. Sept. 16, arts and crafts on the porch. Local artists or crafts persons will demonstrate on the porch of the Red House.

* 10 a.m. Sept. 23, Sewing Basket/River Heritage Quilt Guild will demonstrate quilting and sewing on the porch of the Red House.

* 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Sept. 24, Red House fund raiser party at the Arena Building. Tickets are available from members of the Friends of the Red House, at the Red House, Arena Building and Convention and Visitors Bureau. Deadline for reservations is Sept. 19. The party celebrates the bicentennial of Cape Girardeau and the end of the Lewis and Clark bicentennial. Dinner catered by Chartwells, music by Manitou, dancing by the Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance (callers are John and Kathy Coffman), live and silent auction. Special guest is nationally known interpreter Patrick Lee, portraying President Thomas Jefferson. Guests are welcome in period dress or modern day dress.

* 10 a.m. Sept. 30, Red House Kids Club. Learn about the incorporation of the city of Cape Girardeau.
