  • The Red House Kids' Club will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday. The topic is "African-Americans in the Old Cape Girardeau District." From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Felix Lewis will demonstrate wood carving techniques and have carvings on display. Also at 11 a.m. the Shere Khan Drum Group will perform, followed by NaTika Rowles dancing to African music. At 12:30 p.m. the House of Prayer Outreach Ministries Gospel Singers will perform on the Red House grounds. At 2 p.m. the new Fife and Drum Group will offer fife and drum lessons based on historical manuals from American Revolutionary times. The public is invited to participate in this music lesson. Fifes can be purchased at the Red House; drums are available and will be shared. Lessons are led by Neil Randol, municipal band drummer.
  • From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 16, African-American arts and crafts will be featured. Quilting demonstrations by Louise Ayers and Phyllis Johnson and cooking by the House of Prayer Outreach Ministries of Cape Girardeau will also be on the agenda.
  • At 10 a.m. June 23, African-American storytelling will be featured with Louise Duncan and Elnora King. The Cape Public Library African artifacts box will be shared with the public at 2 p.m. by Mia Cook. Also, from 2 to 4 p.m. African-American genealogy will be explored with the public, led by Jane Randol Jackson, Red House director.
  • The second Louis J. Lorimier Memorial World Famous Downtown Golf Tournament is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. June 24. A catfish dinner will be served at the close of the tournament on the Common Pleas Courthouse lawns. Registration is required for all participants. Registration forms are available in the Southeast Missourian newspaper and can also be obtained by contacting the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau at 335-1631 or (800) 777-0068.
  • The Red House Interpretive Center will be open for visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 30.
