Robert Cox and Sandy Primonato received regional awards for their work with the Southeast Missouri American Red Cross.

The North Central Regional Office in Des Moines, Iowa, selects winners from nominations submitted from seven states, including Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Cox won the Cynthia Wedel Award for superior and outstanding leadership service over an extended period of time. Cox has been a Red Cross volunteer for more than 30 years. He started volunteering with his fraternity while in college and has served in many posts, including chairman of the board.

He has actively recruited other volunteers including his wife, staff at his accounting firm, his fraternity brothers and friends.

Primonato, director of health and safety for the Southeast Missouri chapter, was awarded the Health and Safety Service Award for exemplary commitment to health and safety service. She has been employed with the Red Cross for more than four years.

Under her leadership, CPR, first aid, water safety, and other health and safety programs have reached a growing number of people. Last year more than 13,000 individuals received training.
