The American Red Cross of Southeast Missouri has selected its first Community Volunteer Leader for Cape Girardeau.
A Community Volunteer Leader acts as the single point of contact within community to develop, build and expand the presence of the Red Cross, a news release stated.
Jeff Shawan, a Red Cross ambassador and advocate, was chosen for the position.
Shawan led the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and pushed to install smoke alarms all across the community, according to the release. The Red Cross said they consider the community stronger because of his work.
"The Red Cross is fortunate to select Jeff as our first Community Volunteer Leader," executive director Sara Gerau said. "He has a wealth of experience that will help guide and strengthen the delivery of our mission."
