On Aug. 11, the Jackson Public Library awarded educational toys and books to readers who participated in the summer reading program and read at least 20 books.

After reading 20 books, children's names were automatically entered for a prizes. When participants read another 20 books, they were entered again, increasing their chances of winning.

All of the winners attended the awards ceremony.

"One winner was so excited that he asked the day before if he could pick up his prize and return the next day with it, to be photographed," said Terri Noland, children's library assistant.

In all, 135 children signed up for the summer reading program, and 52 children read at least 20 books.

There were 11 preschool participants: Conrad Bonney, Hannah Chasteen, Robert Gattis, girl prize winner Chloe Kasten, boy prize winner Justin Keusenknothen, Hailey Koerber, Alec Mayberry, Laura Payne, champion prize winner Morgaine Spainhoward, James Robert Ward and Amy Williamson.

In the kindergarten through second-grade category, there were 27 participants: Treven Biri, Katrina Blahnik, Kimberly Blahnik, Danelle Bowers, Daniel Bowers, Davis Chasteen, J.D. Chezem, Joey Deiermann, Kelly Dunlap, A.J. Garms, Tony Budovich, Logan Green, Bryant Holt, Kendall Houston, champion prize winner Amber LaClair, Brooke LeGrand, Denae Payne, boy prize winner Christopher Reed, Phillip Reed, Joseph Schneider, Ashleigh Spainhoward, Kimberly Spainhoward, Kenny Tiffany, Tyler Tuschoff, girl prize winner Molly Whitener, Rachel Williamson and Mary Kate Whitson.

In the third-grade through fifth-grade category, there were 14 participants: Girl prize winner Chelby Chezem, Gabe Eggers, champion prize winner Courtney Fisher, John Free, Cody Green, Mary Harshaw, boy prize winner Daniel Hooks, Ashley LaClair, Kati Miinch, April Mayberry, Megan Roberts, Anna Stout, Jordan Whitener and Bobby Williamson.

New preschool storytime hours at Jackson Public Library for preschoolers living in the Jackson School District will be held this fall. Each hour will feature stories, crafts, games and lots of fun for children 2 through pre-kindergarten. There will be two sessions a week Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

A parent or adult will need to stay throughout the session. Pre-registration is necessary and sign-up forms may be obtained at the library registration desk. For information call 243-5150.
