In recognition of National Tourism Week, the May general membership meeting of the Regional Commerce and Growth Association will be held at one of the area's newest tourist attractions.
The meeting will be held Wednesday the middle of National Tourism Week at the American Heritage Museum, off of Airport Road south of Cape Girardeau. It begins at 5:30 p.m.
The association said its Tourism Committee, chaired by Jim Maevers of Jackson, has become the largest and one of its most active committees. The committee's activities include the development of regional archaeological sites to serve as tourist attractions.
Also, the committee has submitted a grant request to the federal government to support a regional tourism project, the concept of which would be to promote the entire region as a tourist destination.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting, which will begin with a social hour. A short business meeting, concluded with a tour of the museum, will follow.
The meeting at the museum is a continuation of the association's effort to promote area attractions. In the past, the association has met at places such as Clearwater Lake, Marble Hill, The Glenn House, and St. Louis Iron Mountain & Southern Railway.
Anyone with questions or comments is encouraged to call the association's office at 334-4142.
