Brian Thomas, a Gordonville business owner, was the first Democrat to file for presiding commissioner of Cape Girardeau County. Since that time, little has been heard from him. Six interview requests made from June 29 to July 19 were not answered.

Mark Baker, chairman of the Cape Girardeau County Democratic Party, said he also has had no contact with Thomas. Baker said he does not remember ever meeting Thomas, nor does he remember Thomas ever attending any Democratic functions or meetings. However, he added that he does not attend every party function. He said Thomas, unlike many candidates, has not requested to come before the Democratic Central Committee to discuss his campaign.

Thomas filed to run for presiding commissioner March 5 and paid the $50 filing fee at that time. In the financial disclosure statement he submitted upon filing, he lists himself as the owner of El Shaddai Heating and Cooling in Gordonville.

Cape Girardeau County Clerk Kara Clark Summers said he has not filed any additional financial disclosure statements. She said he did not need to file any additional statements because he never formed a campaign committee.
