The Friends of the Cape Girardeau Public Library will sponsor a program on the earthquake of 1811-1812 featuring David Stewart, author of "The Earthquake That Never Went Away."
The program is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the library.
Mark Winkler will speak about ways to be prepared in the event of an earthquake.
Copies of Stewart's book will be available for sale and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Friends of the Library.
On Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Stewart will host a trip to the New Madrid fault zone. Those taking the tour will see where the Mississippi River ran backwards, the world's largest sand boil, an earthquake landslide, an earthquake crevice, and will visit the New Madrid Historical Museum.
The cost of the tour includes $10 for transportation and $15 for a copy of "The Earthquake That Never Went Away." Those interested in attending either or both of the programs may call 334-5279 for more information.
