Five students earned I ratings at the Missouri Music Teachers Association state piano competition.
Bryan Daume, John Detore and Andrew Hicks, students of Becky Fulgham; and Jennifer Layton and Diana Weaver, students of Alicia Wappel, each played two memorized pieces before a judge in the Columbia competition.
Before advancing to state competition, the students earned I ratings at the district level in Cape Girardeau.
Daume, Detore, Hicks and Weaver are students in the Music Preparatory Program at Southeast Missouri State University.
