Two Jackson residents charged with child endangerment and possession of controlled substances must now hire private counsel after a public defender assigned to their cases was granted a withdrawal motion Monday in a Cape Girardeau County courtroom.
Mickael Minner, 41 and Charla Huston, 40, were arrested Sept. 9 after police officers and the Missouri Division of Family Services conducted a search of their home at 1225 Brandom St. The two are also charged with possession of methamphetamine precursors and Minner is also charged with unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
Preliminary hearings set for both Huston and Minner on Oct. 5 were canceled in order to give the two time to hire another lawyer. They'll both appear again before Associate Circuit Judge Gary A. Kamp. Oct. 25.
Police allegedly found a "shake and bake" methamphetamine lab, more than 100 pills believed to be pseudoephedrine, marijuana, ecstasy and Xanax in the home.
Court documents filed in the case say the two children living in the Brandom Street home were removed and placed in the custody of the division of family services.
Huston and Minner have been ordered by the court to have no direct or indirect contact with the children.
