Southeast Missouri State University Provost Dr. Charles Kupchella will remain in his current job.
Kupchella was one of five finalists for chancellor of the University of Michigan campus at Flint.
The search was later narrowed to three finalists, including Kupchella. The schedule called for a new chancellor to be chosen, possibly later this week.
But Kupchella said Monday that he is no longer in the running for the post. "The bottom line was I decided I am not going to go," Kupchella said.
He said he is in no hurry to leave his job at Southeast.
"Even though I do eventually aspire to move to a chancellorship or presidency, there is no panic to do that," Kupchella said.
"One real advantage that I have is I don't have anything to run away from," he said.
