Prop 1 chosen topic of First Friday Coffee

Proposition 1, the half-cent sales tax for roads and law enforcement in Cape Girardeau County, will be the subject of discussion this morning at the First Friday Coffee sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce. Commissioner Jay Purcell and Sheriff John Jordan will each make a presentation on the tax proposal. First Friday coffee is held in the Concourse Room of the Show Me Center on North Sprigg Street. Doors open at 7 a.m. with the program beginning at 7:30 a.m. The chamber's board of directors discussed the tax at its monthly meeting Tuesday but took no position either for or against the measure, director John Mehner said Thursday. "We discussed a lot of what we have read and some of their presentation, but we didn't vote on anything," Mehner said.
