Project Charlie, a drug and alcohol prevention program, is gearing up for the school year with volunteer training Oct. 18-20.
Charlie stands for chemical abuse resolution lies in education and is taught in grades 2 and 4. The program was implemented in the Cape Girardeau and Jackson school systems in 1985.
The Project Charlie goals are to build self-esteem in children, to assist teachers and school administrators in promoting an atmosphere of mutual respect and acceptance, and to provide learning opportunities for parents.
The training session will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. each day. At the sessions, volunteers will be trained on how to conduct weekly 30-minute classroom sessions.
