Adventure Day is an opportunity for special needs students enrolled in the Classroom Scouting Program to join together for a day of outdoor activities and fun away from the classroom.
This year's theme, "The Old Wild West," was celebrated with horse petting, lassoing the "bull," a log-rolling relay, games of horseshoes, early American crafts and branding. Students observed lace making, weaving, candle making, flint making and outdoor cooking. Replicas from the Lewis and Clark expedition were on display. The event was held at Cape County Park South and attended by students from Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.
Special Needs Classroom Scouting has been a successful program in the St. Louis area since 1986; it began in 1994 in Southeast Missouri and 1998 in Southern Illinois.
There is no fee charged to the Scouts and their teachers. For more information contact Beverly K. Hahs at 335-3346 or (800) 335-3346.
