The 1993 Procter & Gamble Fund Scholarship has awarded 128 college scholarships to high school seniors throughout the country six of whom are children of Cape Girardeau Procter & Gamble employees.
Local winners of the scholarship were: Beth N. Farrow, Becky Mangels, Mandi McCoy, Paula Welker, Mark Moonier and Edgar Upchurch Jr.
The Procter & Gamble Fund Scholarship Program awards college scholarships based on the candidates' academic achievements, leadership skills, accomplishments outside the classroom and school recommendations to outstanding students from around the country who are children of Procter & Gamble employees.
Each scholarship provides the winner with $1,000-$3,000 per year for up to four years of full-time study at an accredited college or university.
Thousands of students have applied since the program began in 1978, and 430 students currently hold renewable four-year scholarships. Since the program's inception, more than 1,575 students have received scholarships totaling over $7.5 million.
