MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- A custom-exempt meat processing operation in Marble Hill has been temporarily halted by the state Department of Agriculture's Meat and Poultry Inspection Program.
According to a news release issued by the agency, members of the program moved Tuesday to suspend custom-exempt processing permissions for Ed's Certified Meats after unsanitary conditions were found. The business' permissions are to remain suspended until the completion of a satisfactory inspection, which will be scheduled at the business owner's request, the release said.
Facilities operating under a custom-processing exemption are not allowed to sell meat to the public, according to the release. Custom-exempt processing is completed for livestock owners for their consumption, and all custom-exempt packaging is specially marked.
Customers of Ed's Certified Meats should carefully examine all items processed by the facility before consuming, the department said, and contact their local health officials with any food safety-related questions and for additional information on sanitation.
