The 2024 primary election is coming next week on Tuesday, Aug. 6. Cape Girardeau County Clerk Kara Clark Summers has compiled details county residents need to know before heading to the polls.
First, voters need to know what ballot they will choose — Republican, Democratic, Libertarian or non-partisan — which only features constitutional amendments and primary candidate races.
It’s recommended Cape County residents view a sample ballot ahead of election day. Sample ballots can be accessed by visiting www.capecountyvotes.com/whats-on-my-ballot. Click the “My sample ballot” button on the page and type in a residential address to view the applicable sample ballot.
Making a plan to vote is also recommended. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day. For those unable to make it to their specific polling location, the county clerk’s office and satellite office in Jackson and Cape, respectively, will also be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. where any registered voter in the county can vote.
To vote, residents must bring one acceptable form of photo identification, which includes a non-expired Missouri driver’s or non-driver’s license, a non-expired U.S. passport or a non-expired military ID with a photo of the voter or one with no expiration date. Voters may also bring a document that contains their name and “substantially conforms to the most recent signature in the voter registration record”, a photo of themselves, an expiration date that shows it’s not expired — or expired after the Nov. 8, 2022, general election — and was issued by the U.S. or State of Missouri.
