Former Scott County deputy Ivan Norman Brant Jr. waived formal arraignment Monday in connection with charges of possessing a controlled substance.
Judge Gary Kamp set Brant's preliminary hearing for July 1.
In May, Brant, 37, of Scott City was charged with possession of a controlled substance for his role in allegedly helping former Scott City police officer Samuel J. Lincoln, 26, of Whitewater sell the hormone testosterone to a Jackson police officer.
Lincoln was charged with distribution of a controlled substance and will appear before Judge Scott E. Thomsen on June 24 for initial arraignment.
While Lincoln allegedly arranged the sale of the testosterone for $200 in January, Brant said he was holding the drug as collateral for a loan, according to a probable-cause statement in the case. Brant brought the drug to a meeting at the Rhodes Travel Center in Scott City, which had been set up by investigators from the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force. The multiagency group is supervised by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
