Organizers of the Men's Prayer Breakfast said they were inspired to host the event to help other men in the community start their year "by putting God first."
Marc Harris, one of about eight men behind the Thursday event in Cape Girardeau, said the goal of the breakfast is simple.
"The focus completely is on prayer and kind of giving men a charge to put God first in their lives," he said.
To help ignite that charge, the event will include a number of guest speakers.
The Rev. Ron Watts, senior pastor at La Croix Methodist Church; the Rev. Mark Anderson, senior pastor at Lynwood Baptist Church; and the Rev. David Hulshof of St. Vincent de Paul Parish will speak, along with Southeast Missouri State University head football coach Tom Matukewicz.
Harris described Matukewicz, known as Coach Tuke, as "a man who has genuine qualities." Harris said he believed the coach had the ability as a speaker to inspire others.
"We have, all of us, been impressed by the direction and the presence Coach Tuke has brought to this community and thought he would be a great guy to come and give a charge to the men's community if he was available, and thankfully he was," Harris said.
The event will be at Ray's Plaza Banquet Center, 2357 William St. in Cape Girardeau. Breakfast will be provided for $7.
Doors open and breakfast will be served at 6 a.m. The program starts at 6:45 a.m. and ends at 7:30 a.m.
