Most Ameren Missouri customers in the Cape Girardeau and Jackson area left without power in the wake of powerful afternoon storms Monday had power restored before 10 p.m.

According to the utility's website, a little more than 800 customers in the area were still without power at 9:40 p.m.

By Tuesday morning, power to those who remained without had been restored.

The storms knocked out power to more than 6,000 Ameren Missouri customers in the area at the outage's peak. By 6:10 p.m., more than 4,600 customers were without power in the Cape Girardeau area and another 580 around Jackson. Jackson's city utilities reported no outages.

The Ameren numbers were up from 4:50 p.m., when the website reported 2,792 customers without power in Cape Girardeau's 63701 ZIP code, another 17 without power in other Cape Girardeau-area codes and 128 without power in the Jackson area.

Power outages were reported along North Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau and at Center Junction on U.S. 61 between Cape Girardeau and Jackson.

Cape Girardeau firefighters responded to about a dozen calls of downed power lines by a little after 5:30 p.m.
