Power out in east Cape Girardeau; several trees down

Cape Girardeau Public Works Department director Tim Gramling said the fast-moving storm knocked "a bunch of trees down."

He said trees are down on Lorimier and Spanish streets, and on Ranney Avenue near Walnut Street.

"If the trees are in power lines, we have to wait for Ameren. We've got guys coming in to work. The crews were actually gone for the day; they're coming back in," Gramling said.

"We've got a bunch of calls," he said, and expects more as people return home from work

"We've got three intersections without power: Sprigg at William, Independence and Morgan Oak," he said.

The power outage has affected the wastewater treatment plant, which is operating off its generators.

"We had rain blowing in under our door. We've never had that before," he said.

Rodney Bollinger, Jackson's director of public works, said he'd heard a report of a tree and electric line down at 607 Greensferry Road at Olive Street. His department took reports of trees down at 425 Forest St., 520 North Hope St., 311 Plainview Ave. and in the 900 block of Shady Lane as well as an undetermined address on Litz Boulevard.
