JOPLIN, Mo. -- The name of Missouri Southern State University's stadium could be changing.

And that has upset a relative of the stadium's late namesake, Fred. G. Hughes. His daughter, Sallie Hughes, says the school's foundation has told her that a potential donor wants the stadium to be named after him.

Hughes' father was a longtime president and chairman of the board of The Joplin Globe Publishing Co., and he also was among those who spearheaded the creation of the four-year institution.

She told The Joplin Globe that she would like to at least see the stadium's field retain her father's name. But she says the school has been resistant to the idea.

University officials said in a statement Tuesday that the school doesn't release information obtained for fundraising and development purposes.
