POPLAR BLUFF -- A two-vehicle traffic accident on Highway 60, about six miles east of Poplar Bluff resulted in the death of a 61-year-old Poplar Bluff man Friday morning.

Killed was William Phillips.

The accident occurred about 11 a.m., said the Missouri State Highway Patrol, when Phillips' vehicle, traveling east, attempted a U-turn and was struck on the driver's side by a car driven by Richard Stephens, 36, also traveling east.

Three persons suffered injuries. Phillips' wife, Inita Phillips, 59, a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to Doctors' Hospital in Poplar Bluff with moderate injuries.

Stephens, 33, of Bernie, and Jeffrey Tippins, 36, Bernie, a passenger in the Stephens car, were taken to Lucy Lee Hospital in Poplar Bluff, with injuries.
