HAYTI, Mo. — Lisa Hooper, 37, of Hayti was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action after first claiming her boyfriend died of an accidental shooting.
Hayti police chief Paul Sheckell reported at 10:17 p.m. Monday, Hayti officers went to the intersection of South Seventh and East Monroe streets to investigated what was called an accidental shooting.
The victim was identified as John Thomas, 28, of Hayti. He was taken to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:03 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the Hayti Police Department, Thomas was Hooper’s boyfriend, and the shot that killed him came after the two argued.
Sheckell said police recovered the gun that was used in the shooting.
