An assault victim woke up Tuesday night to a Cape Girardeau woman hitting her repeatedly in the left side of her body with an aluminum baseball bat, police said.
The Cape Girardeau County prosecuting attorney’s office charged Chene Cominique Aldridge, 31, with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Aldridge remained at large Saturday. Her bond was set at $30,000 cash or surety.
Cape Girardeau police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of Ricardo Drive, according to a probable-cause statement filed by officer Aaron Bennett. Bennett contacted a man at the front of the house but could hear a woman yelling from the rear, according to the statement.
The victim was lying on a bed, yelling on the phone and crying, Bennett wrote. He asked her to stand up, and she could barely move from the bed, according to the statement. Bennett wrote he saw bruising to her left shoulder, the left side of her back, left arm, left buttocks, left thigh and left calf and swelling on her elbow, left forearm and thigh.
The victim said she came home, saw Aldridge asleep on the couch and proceeded to bed, according to the statement. She awoke to Aldridge hitting her with a bat and accusing the victim of stealing a pair of shoes, Bennett wrote. Aldridge left the house after the attack, according to the statement.
The victim said Aldridge assaulted her one month earlier, but she did not report it, Bennett wrote.
