A person of interest is being sought for questioning regarding the killing of Matthew "Woody" Ervin, who was found shot to death June 26 on a Cape Girardeau street.

Police want to question Armster "Bud" Robinson III, 19, of Charleston, Mo., according to a news release from the Cape Girardeau-Bollinger County Major Case Squad.

Police believe Robinson is one of two people that witnesses saw running from the scene where Ervin was found dead, Cape Girardeau police spokesman Sgt. Jason Selzer said.

Robinson also has a Cape Girardeau County warrant for his arrest for delivery of a controlled substance.

On Thursday, police arrested Thomas D. Evans Jr., 20, of Bellwood, Ill., in connection with Ervin's death. He was charged with one count of second-degree murder. Evans had been living at 418 Themis, Apt. 6, since June 19.

Evans told police Robinson sold Ervin $50 worth of cocaine on the night of the murder, according to police statements. Evans and Robinson were at B&H, 1021 Bloomfield St., when Ervin pulled into the parking lot next to the building. After Ervin bought the drugs, Evans and Robinson got into his vehicle and rode to AM PM at 1101 William St., and then to Park Drive.

Police found a small amount of cocaine above the visor on the driver's side of Ervin's car, which was parked near a Dumpster not far from where his body was found.

Ervin, 44, was found by Cape Girardeau police at the intersection of Park Drive and Fountain Street. Dr. Russell Diediker, who conducted the autopsy, said Ervin was shot from close range, about two feet.

Anyone with information on Robinson's whereabouts is encouraged to contact police at 335-6621.
