Cape Girardeau police are seeking charges of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident against a driver involved in a one-car crash Tuesday morning near the intersection of Bertling and Sprigg.
The crash happened at about 10 a.m. The driver and three passengers, all unnamed by police, crested a hill at a high speed, became airborne in the other lane of traffic, hit a curb, slid into grass and a driveway, struck another curb and a concrete stormwater culvert, and became airborne again.
Their Saturn sedan flipped end-over-end, landing on its back at the concrete base of a light pole.
A passerby saw the crash and drove the foursome to a local hospital, said patrolman Jason Selzer. But the driver was nowhere to be found at the hospital. Instead, police later found him at the home of the car's owner with a broken arm. The passengers had only suffered minor cuts and bruises.
