Police say woman arrested after chemical assault

CATRON, Mo. -- A woman was arrested after allegedly throwing a caustic chemical at another woman.

New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens reported about 10 a.m. Wednesday his officers were called to a residence on Kell Street in Catron regarding an assault in progress.

According to the sheriff, a Howardville, Mo., woman was injured when a Catron woman threw some type of chemical in a beverage bottle into the Howardville woman's face. Stevens said the victim, who received burns to her face and shoulder area, was taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo., where she was treated and released.

Stevens declined to name the assailant pending the filing of formal charges for assault.
