Scott City police arrested three people Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a trailer, trashing a bedroom and possessing syringes that tested positive for methamphetamine, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed in the case.
The Scott County Prosecuting Attorney’s office charged Zachary Dewayne Parker, 23, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Nicholas C. Brooks, 23, of Chaffee, Missouri; and Amanda Price, 29, of Cape Girardeau with second-degree burglary, first-degree property damage and misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
The owner of the trailer in the 2000 block of Mary Street contacted Scott City police Tuesday, saying Parker still was in the trailer and had been living there without the owner’s permission after he was hired to renovate the residence, according to the probable-cause affidavit filed by from Scott City Police Sgt. Jacob Marberry.
Officers gained access to the trailer even though the electric door lock was inoperable and found Parker, Brooks and Price in the northwest bedroom, Marberry wrote. Police secured all three suspects in handcuffs, according to the affidavit.
In plain view, Marberry observed an uncapped syringe, several small blue pills and oval pills on a table, according to the affidavit. After the suspects were removed from the trailer, Marberry found a black plastic box containing several syringes, a straw and spoon with a white residue and a plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance, Marberry wrote.
In the bedroom, the walls had been spray painted, a door and window air conditioner damaged, carpets stained and trash had been strewn throughout the room, Marberry wrote. Several syringes were found in a hole in the floor, but Marberry could not retrieve them, according to the affidavit.
The property owner estimated the damage to be at least $5,000, Marberry wrote.
Officers field-tested the paraphernalia after the suspects were booked, according to the affidavit. The pills were not a controlled substance, and the crystalline substance did not test positive for methamphetamine, Marberry wrote. Marberry tested a syringe found in the floor and a syringe inside a wallet in a purse, and both tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the affidavit.
