Police were searching for a suspect in a stabbing Thursday night on Spanish Street.
A male victim was stabbed and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, said Darin Hickey, public information officer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
In a text message to the Southeast Missourian, Hickey said the victim and suspect were familiar with each other, and the stabbing was "not a random act."
The motive was not immediately clear.
About 8:25 p.m., scanner traffic indicated someone had called to report a possible stabbing at 1430 N. Spanish Street.
According to scanner reports, the victim was believed to have been stabbed in the abdomen and was bleeding from his stomach.
A little after 8:30 p.m., a Cape Girardeau police officer at the scene said police were establishing a perimeter and bringing in a K-9 unit to search.
The officer asked a reporter to remain in her vehicle to avoid muddling the scent while the dog worked.
An ambulance, firetruck and several police cars were dispatched to the area.
About 9 p.m., an ambulance left the scene. A man was visible through the back window of the ambulance. He appeared to be sitting up, and an emergency worker was assisting him.
Several officers continued to search the neighborhood after the ambulance left.
Officers still were on the scene at 9:30 p.m., but no one had been arrested yet, Hickey said.
Police did not release a suspect name or description Thursday night.
