The Cape Girardeau Police Department is investigating gunshots fired early Saturday morning at a local convenience store.

According to a news release issued by Sgt. Jason Selzer, spokesman for the police department, officers responded about 1:40 a.m. to a report of shots being fired in the parking lot of Rhodes Convenience Store, 1126 N. Sprigg St. Upon arrival, the officers made contact with employees of the business, who advised that there was a group of suspects in the parking lot and that a fight had started. After the fight had started, several gunshots were heard and people began running from the parking lot. No one has come forward as being hurt in this incident, the release said.

The release said there was a report of property damage at 616 Emerald St. where it appeared a stray bullet from the shooting incident entered the house and struck a wall. No one in the house was injured; however, there was someone inside when the shooting happened, the release said.

No suspects are in custody, and the police department still is investigating. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Cape Girardeau Police Department at 335-6621.
