At about 5 p.m. Monday, police officers were on the scene of an earlier shooting incident in the 600 block of Penny Avenue in Cape Girardeau.
Darin Hickey, public information officer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, said police received a phone call about 2 a.m. reporting shots fired in the residential district. Officers were finally able to execute a search warrant Monday evening.
"We had a shots fired call overnight there, and nothing was located. We were just conducting a follow-up investigation, which included the search warrant of a residence in the 600 block of Penny," Hickey said. "There were several shell casings located and some spent rounds in the house and a tree nearby."
No one was injured in the incident, and police did not have anyone in custody.
Neighbors said they heard seven or eight gunshots fired about 2:30 a.m. One, who declined to be identified, said the incident was unusual for the neighborhood and most people have lived there for
years.
