Police arrest pair on drug charges after receiving tip

Thanks to a call from Target store staff, Cape Girardeau police found and arrested a Bertrand, Mo., couple Friday on methamphetamine-related charges.

Terry W. Clark, 53, and Kathy J. Henry, 45, were each charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of ephedrine with intent to manufacture a controlled substance. Clark was also charged with driving while suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in custody in lieu of $5,000 bail. Henry was released Saturday on $3,500 bond.

On Friday afternoon, Target store personnel notified authorities a man had just left after purchasing the maximum amount of pseudoephedrine allowed by law, said patrolman Daniel Seger in a probable cause statement. The caller described the man's car and gave the direction he was headed.

Seger located the car and followed it to the intersection of Siemers and Highway 74, where he stopped it after the driver, Clark, committed a traffic violation.

Upon searching the car, Seger located three boxes of pseudoephedrine, four 24-count pill packages of the medication that had been removed from cartons and several lithium batteries. In Henry's purse, Seger found two small plastic bags containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine, he said. In Clark's shirt pocket, the officer also found rolling papers, a glass pipe and a plastic bag containing a substance believed to be meth.

The couple are set for arraignment at 9 a.m. Nov. 21 in associate circuit court.
