Police arrest five in Sikeston drug busts over the weekend

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Sikeston police arrested five people on drug charges after two separate investigations Saturday.

Sikeston police detective Bobby Sullivan served a search warrant at 338 E. Gladys St., Apt. B just after 6 p.m. Saturday. Three men were at the residence when officers arrived. Investigators reported collecting 15 grams of crack cocaine, 10 grams of marijuana and packaging materials for narcotics at the home, along with cash believed to have been the result of drug sales.

Ronnie Lenal Walker, 47, of Sikeston and Willie E. Walker, 41, of Rockford, Ill., were arrested.

Ronnie Walker was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Willie Walker was arrested for an outstanding city of Sikeston warrant for contempt of court.

Both men were transferred to the Scott County Jail awaiting court appearances. Ronnie Walker, held on a $75,000 cash or surety bond for the drug charges, is scheduled for a Jan. 20 arraignment.

Officers investigating a foul odor at 10 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Russell Street traced it to a house trailer at 227 Russell St.

According to police, they heard a conversation inside of the trailer and contacted Sikeston's criminal investigations unit, which responded, assisted by Sullivan.

Sullivan knocked on the door. A man opened the door and a plume of white smoke rose out, Sullivan said in a written statement. The detective could see meth manufacturing equipment from where he stood.

The man at the door was arrested, along with two women inside the home. Investigators reported finding more meth-related items and an unspecified quantity of the drug.

Danny Lee Staggs, 37, of Sikeston was charged with manufacturing and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and was given a $75,000 cash or surety bond for the offenses. Staggs is in custody and scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. The women's names are being withheld; as of Tuesday evening they hadn't been charged.
